Every panel of the wings reads like glass held together with gold wire: deep red and rose medallions ring outward from the centre of each upper wing, cooling into violet, sapphire and forest green toward the lower tips, all traced in fine bronze linework the way old leadwork holds coloured panes in place. The moth's body is furred and banded in bronze, its antennae feathered into soft plumes, its eyes a small cold blue. Old glassmakers built windows out of hundreds of small coloured panes because no single piece of glass could hold that much colour and stay standing. We liked the idea of a moth built the same way — as if it had been assembled pane by pane instead of hatched. It's one of the most detailed pieces in the shop, and one of the few that genuinely looks different in daylight versus candlelight.
