This is a face, not a body. The wolf fills the frame from ear to jaw, black-gold fur soaked with fog, and the only clean lines in it are the marks worked into the fur itself — thin rune-shapes and knotwork set into the hide over the brow and down the muzzle, the way a brand sets into skin rather than lying on top of it.

The eyes are pale, cold, and lit from somewhere that isn't in the picture — not blue exactly, closer to the colour ice goes when the sun sits behind it. One iron link hangs loose from a broken cuff at the shoulder, swinging free rather than pulled taut to anything; whatever it was fastened to did not hold. Fog sits low across dark pine and a jagged mountain skyline behind, what light is left already failing.

Nothing here is mid-struggle. The breaking already happened, off-frame, before this picture starts.

PRINT OPTIONS

You can bring this piece home in the format that suits your space:

• POSTER PRINT — professional-grade 200 GSM matte photo paper, UV-resistant archival inks, shipped rolled in a protective tube and ready to frame your way.
• STRETCHED CANVAS — gallery-wrapped over a sturdy 1.25" frame with a black border for extra depth and contrast, hanging hardware pre-installed.
• FRAMED CANVAS — your stretched canvas finished in a solid wood frame in your choice of colour (White, Black, Espresso or Natural), with hardware already fitted. The frame adds roughly 1/2" on each side.

Every format uses fade- and UV-resistant archival inks on sustainably sourced materials, so the pale eyes hold their light against the dark fur.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT

• It's a portrait, not a full body — the wolf's head fills the frame close enough to read individual strands of fur, a different kind of image entirely from a wide creature scene.
• The marks aren't paint over the top: rune-shapes and knotwork sit worked into the fur and hide itself, heaviest across the brow and down the muzzle, like a brand rather than an accessory.
• The eyes carry the whole picture — pale, ice-cold, lit from somewhere outside the frame, the brightest thing in a scene with no moon and no clear sky.
• One link of chain hangs loose from a broken cuff, swinging free rather than pulled tight — this is the moment after something gave way, not the moment of the binding itself.
• The setting is fog and dark pine rather than open snow — a mountain skyline barely visible through low cloud, close and enclosing rather than wide and cold.
• Portrait format and a close crop make this a strong single-wall statement piece for a narrow space where a wide landscape wolf print would not fit.

A WORD FROM US

Old sources give the great wolf more than one name, and Vanagandr — monster of the river Ván — is the one used for the moment he finally gets loose, not the moment he is caught. We wanted the picture that goes with that name instead of the more familiar one: not the struggle, not the trick that got the collar on him in the first place, just the animal a breath after the metal gives way, already looking at what comes next. Please note: due to differences in monitor settings and display calibration, actual print colors may vary slightly from what you see on screen.
