An ornate tarnished silver urn holds an arrangement that is well past its best: **black dahlias** still holding their form at the centre, but around them roses gone to paper — ochre, dusty rose, brown at every edge, one collapsed entirely. Sea holly and teasel stand up out of the middle, dried to grey. Loose petals and a shrivelled bud lie on the table where they fell.
