This is a Victorian glasshouse at night, gone entirely to the plants. Wrought-iron ribs climb to a faceted glass dome, and through it a full moon sits framed almost exactly at the apex, silvering the panes and throwing pale beams down through the arched windows on the right. Ivy has taken the ironwork completely — up the columns, across the mullions, along every rib — and black roses grow in heavy banks on both sides, some of them the size of a fist.

At the centre, a small round café table with a pierced iron top, one bentwood chair pulled up to it, and a single candle burning in a brass stick. Its light lies in a short gold pool on the wet flagstones and goes no further. Everything beyond that pool is moonlight, glass and leaves.
