Centuries of study leave their mark. This hooded figure has kept watch in the same tower long enough that flesh gave way to bone, and still the work goes on — one skeletal hand raised mid-gesture, the other holding an ancient spellbook open to a page that glows and smokes with cold teal fire.

Behind him a great circular sigil hangs suspended in the air, a skull burning at its center, ringed by lines of arcane script. The same script is etched into the stone floor below, glowing in that same otherworldly teal. Candles burn in clusters everywhere — on iron stands, from a hanging chandelier, along a leaded gothic window — throwing gold light against the green. Skulls, sealed potion bottles, a brass astrolabe globe and towers of leather-bound books crowd every surface, the accumulated research of however many lifetimes this study has seen.

His beard is long and white, his robe stitched with gold thread and hung with chains and medallions — the vestments of someone who was, once, entirely mortal and probably rather important. Now he is simply the archivist, and the archive is everything.
