The moth is the axis. Everything else is arranged around it.
A **death's-head hawkmoth** fills the centre with its wings fully spread, drawn in gold on black — long tapered forewings marbled in cream and umber, striped hindwings below, feathered antennae out to both sides, and the **skull marking** unmistakable on the furred thorax. The abdomen is banded gold and black down to the tip.
Running vertically behind it, straight through the composition: a **column of moon phases** in gold, from thin crescent at the top through gibbous to a full moon sitting directly behind the moth's head, then descending through waning phases to a crescent at the foot. Each one sits inside fine concentric orbit rings dotted with stars.
The border is engraved acanthus and gold filigree in the corners, dark roses and thin botanicals filling the field, and at the bottom two **human skulls** — one at each side — flanked by four lit candles in brass sticks with smoke curling up from them.

PRINT OPTIONS
You can bring this piece home in the format that suits your space:
• POSTER PRINT — professional-grade 200 GSM matte photo paper, UV-resistant archival inks, shipped rolled in a protective tube and ready to frame your way.
• STRETCHED CANVAS — gallery-wrapped over a sturdy 1.25" frame with a black border for extra depth and contrast, hanging hardware pre-installed.
• FRAMED CANVAS — your stretched canvas finished in a solid wood frame in your choice of colour, with hardware already fitted. The frame adds roughly 1/2" on each side.
Every format uses fade- and UV-resistant archival inks on sustainably sourced materials, so the gold keeps its warmth against the black.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
• Gold on black, and only gold on black. No second colour anywhere — which is what makes a **gold leaf death moth canvas** read as a heraldic device rather than an illustration.
• The moth is entomologically right: long marbled forewings, striped hindwings, feathered antennae, banded abdomen, and the skull marking clear on the furred thorax.
• The moon column runs the full height behind it — thin crescent, gibbous, full moon directly behind the moth's head, then waning back down to a crescent at the foot, each phase inside fine dotted orbit rings.
• The symmetry is exact. Fold it down the middle and everything matches: the wings, the moons, the corner filigree, the two skulls, the four candles.
• Engraved acanthus and gold filigree in all four corners, with dark roses and fine botanicals filling the black field between.
• Two human skulls sit at the bottom corners, flanked by four lit candles in brass sticks with smoke rising — a **skull hawkmoth print for an altar wall**, a goth bedroom, a tattoo studio or a dark study.

A WORD FROM US
The full name is *Acherontia atropos* — Acheron, the river of woe, and Atropos, the Fate who cuts the thread. Somebody in the eighteenth century looked at a moth with a skull on its back and decided one classical reference was not sufficient. It is the most dramatically named insect in Europe and it fully deserves it: it squeaks when handled, raids beehives for honey, and turns up in enough folklore to have been genuinely feared. We gave it a gold column of moons to stand in. Explore the rest of our gothic wall art collection for more, and reach out any time.
Please note: due to differences in monitor settings and display calibration, actual print colors may vary slightly from what you see on screen.
