Nobody has told them, and nobody is going to.
Four or five couples are waltzing through a derelict ballroom, and every one of them is a skeleton in full evening dress. The pair at the centre have it exactly right — his hand at her spine, her fingers in his, heads turned toward each other with about six inches between the skulls. He is in a tailcoat with an embroidered waistcoat and a bow tie. She is in a ruined ballgown with a train that goes on for a metre and a half, and somebody has pinned flowers into the back of her skull.
The room has been left a very long time. Cobwebs hang in sheets from three crystal chandeliers, the mirrors are blind, the parquet is cracked and puddled. Through a tall arched window on the left, a full moon behind cloud is the only real light in the building — everything else is candle stubs and the last of the gilding.

PRINT OPTIONS
You can bring this piece home in the format that suits your space:
• POSTER PRINT — professional-grade 200 GSM matte photo paper, UV-resistant archival inks, shipped rolled in a protective tube and ready to frame your way.
• STRETCHED CANVAS — gallery-wrapped over a sturdy 1.25" frame with a black border for extra depth and contrast, hanging hardware pre-installed.
• FRAMED CANVAS — your stretched canvas finished in a solid wood frame in your choice of colour, with hardware already fitted. The frame adds roughly 1/2" on each side.
Every format uses fade- and UV-resistant archival inks on sustainably sourced materials, so the gold linework holds against the blue-black.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
• The dancing is correct. Closed hold, his hand at her spine, her fingers in his, heads turned in — a **skeleton ballroom canvas** where the couples are actually waltzing rather than posing.
• The costume is the pleasure: tailcoats, embroidered waistcoats and bow ties on the gentlemen, vast ruined ballgowns with trailing skirts on the ladies, and flowers pinned into the back of one skull.
• Everything is drawn in fine gold linework over blue-black — the fabric, the cobwebs, the parquet, the gilt panelling — which gives the whole picture an etched, illustrated quality rather than a rendered one.
• The room is genuinely derelict. Cobwebs hanging in sheets from three chandeliers, blind mirrors, cracked and puddled parquet, guttering candle stubs in the sconces.
• A full moon behind cloud through the tall arched window at the left is the only cold light in the frame, and it is what everything else is measured against.
• Wide format, deep space and dozens of figures make it a proper statement — a **moonlit gothic dance print for above a sofa**, a dining wall or a media room, and unbeatable in October.

A WORD FROM US
The medieval version of this image was a public service announcement. Painted on charnel walls after the plague, it showed the pope, the king, the merchant and the ploughman all led off in the same line by the same partner — the point being that death is not impressed by your position and the invitation is non-negotiable. Later centuries made it elegant instead of instructive. We have gone with elegant. They are having a wonderful time. Explore the rest of our gothic wall art collection for more, and reach out any time.
